Contest Structure

Beat The chump

The competition structure includes two classic contest formats: runs and jam sessions. Participants will display their abilities in sequential order, making use of and being encouraged to explore the entire skate park. In this phase, contestants take turns, performing as many tricks as they desire or until they fall. Evaluation criteria include consistency, creativity, lines, and difficulty. Each heat will rotate to ensure contestants have multiple attempts in the contest.

Story

Back in the vibrant 1990s, the skateboard staff at Bellevue Skate Park affectionately dubbed me (Jeremy Townsend) the "Bellevue Skate Park Chump." It was a title I wore with a mixture of pride and humor, knowing it came from a place of mockery. Little did I know that this playful moniker would soon become the catalyst for a legendary event.

In 1999, the inaugural Bellevue Skate Park Chump (BTC) competition was born. An open invitation was extended to all rollerbladers, beckoning them to try their luck and skill against the "chump." The stage was set for an epic showdown, and the anticipation was palpable.

As the event unfolded, history was made. Throngs of rollerbladers descended upon the park, each one eager to etch their name into the annals of rollerblading lore. The atmosphere crackled with energy as tricks were landed, ramps were conquered, and boundaries were pushed to new limits.

In the end, the title of Bellevue Skate Park Chump was up for grabs, and competitors gave it their all. Some soared to new heights, while others faced setbacks along the way. But through it all, the spirit of camaraderie prevailed, binding us together in a shared love for the sport.

The first BTC may have been a humble beginning, but it laid the foundation for a legacy that would endure for years to come. From that day forward, the Bellevue Skate Park Chump was no longer just a title—it was a symbol of resilience, determination, and the unbreakable bond of the rollerblading community.

Once a Chump, always a Chump!
